- How to get here: from Turin to Sauze D’Oulx is a 1-hour drive. There are also buses and trains connecting the city to the Sauze D’Oulx ski area, both will take approximately 2h15min with one change.
Undoubtedly one of the most highly rated ski slopes in the region, the 400 kilometers of skiing area offers a range of pistes, some of which are tree-lined.
With reliable snow conditions and plenty of sunny days, Sauze D’Oulx in the Milky Way ski area is a top choice for many travelers.
To accommodate the crowds during the high season, the resort offers 72 ski lifts.
The slopes mostly accommodate intermediate skill levels (red pistes), but there is an easy connection to more challenging black runs at the top of Mount Motta and Mount Sisses, and Kandahar Banchetta and Olympic Kandar Slalom runs.
When not on the slopes, the quaint cobblestone village offers a wide choice of places to eat, apres bars, and a bustling party atmosphere.
2 – Sestrière Ski Resort

- How to get here: It’s a 1.5-hour drive from Turin to Sestrière, you can rent a car at Turin Airport and drive here or get a train/bus to the ski resort area. If you decide to use public transportation then plan to spend almost 3 hours on transit. There is no direct bus or train from Turin to Turin to Sestrière, you will depart from Porta Nuova Station and will have to make one change. If you are flying to Milan Malpensa Airport, you can get a private transfer direct from Milan Airport to Sestriere.
Located at an impressive altitude of 2,035 meters, Sestrière is also part of the Milky Way ski area, offering the same unforgettable skiing experiences as other slopes in the region. Pick your route from 400 kilometers of marked runs and 92 ski lifts.
Sestrière is easily accessible from Turin and also Milan, with transport options of train, bus, and car. Once here, you can kick back and enjoy everything that the all-around resort has to offer.
Known as the home of the men’s World Cup downhill, the resort is loved for its open runs and choice of off-piste and tree-lined slopes.
There are fantastic areas to ski for beginners near the base of the mountains. But the real value lies in intermediate skiing opportunities, with plenty of terrains to pick and choose from.
3 – Bardonecchia Ski Resort

- How to get here: Just an hour’s drive from Turin, this quiet resort is a fantastic option for those wanting a typically Italian laid-back experience. You can also go from Turin to Bardonecchia by train, it takes 1h45min to get here, a great option for a ski day trip from Turin. It’s also possible to go from Turin airport to Bardonecchia by train, or a combination of bus + train, then it takes roughly 3 hours to complete the trip.
Referred to as Italy’s most underrated resort by The Telegraph, Bardonecchia ski resorts offer a wide range of skiing opportunities for experts and beginners alike.
The area offers a total piste length of 140 kilometers and 49 marked pistes. There are 21 ski lifts, reaching a height of 2,750 meters.
As the area is less crowded than others, there are seldom queues for the lifts, meaning more time on the snow.
The area offers some of the best beginner zones for those new to the sport, as well as steeper areas for the more experienced. Bardonecchia skiing terrain also boasts interesting pistes, including forests and high alpine skiing areas.
If you want to get to a ski resort near Turin by train, Bardonecchia is the place to book your trip.
On top of all the infrastructure for winter sports, Bardonecchia is a destination for skiing easy to reach. Just a train ride from Turin and in less than two hours you are here.
The ski area is close to the French border, so if you want to extend your trip you can go for one or two days in France and even check out the French resorts.
4 – Monterosa Ski Resort

During the high season, you can use the Monterosa Shuttle Service that runs from Turin-Caselle Airport and Milan Malpensa Airport directly to the ski area.
The Monterosa ski area is loved as one of the popular ski resorts for its deep powder and opportunity for freeriding. Travelers can enjoy exceptional snow and terrain, without breaking the bank in the process. Which makes skiing in Monterosa a great experience and good value for money.
The area has incomparable tree skiing, great intermediate piste trails, and a large area of freeride terrain to enjoy.
Be advised that if you are looking for ski resorts near Turin for beginners, these slopes are not suitable for beginners, and the backcountry requires a guide for safety. This area is for the ultimate skiing adventurer!
5 – Cervino Ski Paradise

- How to get here: Cervino is one of the best Italian ski resorts near Turin airport, a short two-hour drive. Located in the Aosta Valley, Cervino is easy to reach by car, train, or airplane. From Turin, simply hop onto the Torino-Aosta motorway, take the Châtillon/Saint-Vincent exit and follow the regional road to Cervinia. If you decide to go by bus or train then the trip can take from 2h30min to 3 hours with one change.
Cervino ski resort is located at the foot of Monte Cervino Matterhorn (the peak is called Cervino on the Italian resort’s side, and Matterhorn on the Swiss side). It boasts Breuil-Cervinia which reaches an impressive 2,050 meters, and Valtournenche which extends to 1,524 meters, both close to the Swiss border

Most of these iconic ski slopes we mentioned are a couple of hours away from the city. Keep in mind that the ski season in Italy runs roughly from late November to late April – plan ahead to get the best hotel deals and lift passes.
Tips for getting to Turin ski areas:
These ski areas in Aosta Valley and Piedmont region are Turin’s closest ski resorts, and as I’ve mentioned, you can even go for a ski day trip from Turin to Bardonecchia using public transportation.
Most of these alpine destinations come with scenic train trips, so it isn’t that bad to spend a couple of hours enjoying the ride to your final stop.
If you want to get around freely, then renting a car in Turin is the best option. You can pick up your car rental at Turin Airport or the city center. That way you will be sorted to go to the alpine village you choose or even visit all of them.
